ScanWrench does not require an account for core diagnostic work. On first launch, you choose how the app handles your records, and you can change that choice later in Settings.
Keep it on this device
This is the recommended default. Scans, notes, and evidence stay in the app on that device. You can diagnose without signing in, and ScanWrench does not upload compatibility observations or operational telemetry from this mode.
Use a ScanWrench account
Sign in only when you want eligible cloud features, account-linked entitlements, or access on another device. Apple, Google, and email sign-in are available in the production app. The app identifies what will leave the device before an optional contribution or cloud workflow is submitted.
Save nothing
Use ScanWrench for the active session without retaining scan history. Session evidence stays in memory and is discarded when the session closes. Uploads, telemetry, and compatibility-network contributions are disabled in this mode.
Change or delete your choice
Settings lets you switch modes, clear local ScanWrench data, sign out, or delete a cloud account. Signing out or deleting an account returns the app to device-only mode instead of forcing another sign-in.
- No third-party advertising trackers.
- No sale of vehicle or diagnostic data.
- No full VIN in support text or public compatibility evidence.
- No silent conversion from local-only use to cloud storage.
