Discovery comes before diagnostics
A DoIP client may identify a vehicle endpoint, establish a TCP connection, perform routing activation, and address diagnostic messages. Each stage has its own timeout, rejection, disconnect, and recovery evidence.
Network reachability is not service permission
The responding gateway can still restrict modules, sessions, data, routines, or state-changing functions. Secure variants and OEM gateways require legitimate credentials and current authorization rather than a workaround.
- Validate every announced length and address.
- Separate discovery from routing activation.
- Keep session timing and cancellation explicit.
- Never treat an open TCP port as full-system coverage.
DoIP belongs in the same capability model
The registry should name the adapter or network interface, vehicle application, gateway, target module, diagnostic service, profile source, security requirement, and evidence status. That keeps high-speed access under the same truth rules as BLE, serial, and CAN.
